GP Referral & Lower Back Pain Management

As part of furthering my knowledge and becoming a more qualified Personal Trainer I've undertaken additional qualifications. All Personal Trainers qualify with a Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training which is the minimum standard required to give clients 1-2-1 instruction. With my additional qualifications I'm Level 4, the highest level of industry recognition in Personal Training.

To further explain what this means I have a brief description of my additional qualifications and the clients it will allow me to work with.

GP Exercise Referral

"Exercise is the best medicine" is a phrase you may have heard before and I couldn't agree more. The NHS and General Practitioners are also promoting this message and are often referring patients with a prescription for an exercise program. This is where the Level 4 Personal Trainer comes in, through qualifying in GP Exercise Referral I'm able to work with clients who have a number of medical conditions in order to improve their symptoms or in some cases cure them completely. The medical conditions are:

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Hypertension
  • High Cholesterol
  • Osteoporosis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Joint Replacement
  • Diabetes Type 1 and 2
  • Obesity

Lower Back Pain Management

Lower Back Pain will affect around 4 out of 5 adults and can have a huge affect on your day to day life. Previous medical advice would often be to lie down in bed, take some pain medication and wait for the pain to go away. It is now understood that this advice isn't helpful and can often cause your pain to get worse. Once you stop moving your body starts to de-condition and you become weaker with your back less stable.

Exercise has been thoroughly researched as a very effective way to help prevent and reduce lower back pain and is now advised by medical professionals.

Having studied how to categorise and assess your lower back pain I will then be able to plan and instruct a safe exercise program with you that should start making you feel more comfortable almost immediately.

On a long term basis we would look to reduce your pain, strengthen your core muscles and have you in a regular exercise routine that ensures you won't be suffering from discomfort and able to complete everyday tasks.
